I cannot find the current total number of children in the world that are waiting to be adopted. Any idea? I've been looking for those statistics online all morning.

  1. CHildren in the world???  That will be a hard stat to find.   I will guess that each country has their own stats and within the country each state/province.... has their own stat.  I know for IL you can find it on the IL DCFS web site.  Try adoptuskids.com that "might" help.  Good luck

  2. "Waiting"?

Few children are waiting for that.  Just like adoption is a last hope for infertile parents, it is also not preferred or the best option for kids.

Children are 'waiting' for their own parents to care for them.

  3. i have been researching adoption for 5+ years and have never seen a worldwide statistic on the number of children "available" for adoption.

  4. I found this for the US I think each country has it's own Stats...

Statistics on Number of People Touched by Adoption According to Dr. Ruth McRoy at the UT School of Social Work, there are approximately 5,000,000 US births each year. Of that, approximately 118,000 are adoptions (roughly 2.36% new adoptees each year). Anywhere in the US, a minimum of 2.3% of the population are women who are also birthmothers who have placed children for adoption. Then you also have 2.3% of the population who are birth fathers, and 4.7% of the population who are adoptive parents. Total that up and you have about 11% of the population who are triad members. That does not count aunts, uncles and grandparents to adoptive families and birth families.

Whenever you are in a room of strangers you can figure that one out every ten is a triad member.

By all means use these numbers so folks know that this is an issue that directly touches many of their voters.
