We are in a wooded area and have tower. Others in the area have installed the tuner boxes and only get a limited number of channels. I am not sure what type of antenna I need. Some say UHF and others say VHF. Where can I find the best one

  1. DTV uses both UHF and VHF frequencies, although only channels 7-13 in almost all cases for VHF.

Check one of the sites below to find out what stations are broadcasting digital in your area. The TVfool site is especially useful as it has both the pre and post-transition channels. Many stations will be switching channels on the transition date of Feb 17, 2009.

VHF channels do will do better in wooded areas. UHF channels can be seriously degraded by trees in the line of sight. If you can get above the trees with your tower, you may be OK.

  2. TV is switching from analog to all digital, its not going HD, which stands for High definition, its going digital, a standard def tv isn't going to be able to display a high def signal no matter what antenna you get. You need a converter box that will convert the new digital signal back to analog to be able to watch your tv. The reason tv is going all digital is because the old frequencies are going to be used for wireless devices. In order to receive something in HD you need an HD television.
