Dear all ,

I am soon moving to Ottawa (September) and am looking for a one bedroom apartment with monthly rental rate ranging $600-$900.

I was looking into paramountapts.com and others , however only relying on Internet since I am not on location before August 28th.

Is anyone familiar with Elgin Square , Riverview Place , Cartier Square ? Or do you have any suggestions ?

Thank you

  1. I'm from Ottawa. You can try this website as well:

Elgin and Cartier are right downtown. So both those locations are great, and very close to each other.

Elgin St is a really good party street. Noisy at night, but great for pubs and restaurants. You will possibly encounter crazies on your doorstep though.

The Riverview is on Lees Ave, and it's quite isolated. You are near nothing but a giant bus station, a grocery store, LCBO, and the highway. It's close-ish to downtown, but it's not considered a safe or short walk.

If you're going to Ottawa U then go for Elgin or Cartier.

If you don't want much noise through your window, go for Cartier.

If you really don't mind your location, go for any, including Riverview.

    Best of luck.

  2. None of the above. You will find problems with all 3 of them including little bugs in one of them. Try

  3. Please, trust me when I say none of them.

There was also an article recently in the Ottawa Sun about 'Rental Scams' on the Internet, and renting site unseen a big no-no.

A couple of reputable companies as Ottawa has an excellent transit station would be Glenview and Minto Corp.'s.

Do NOT rent privately from out of town.  You can find some nice 1 bdrm apt.'s within your price range only 20 min.'s to 1/2 hr. tops by bus or 15 min.'s by car by going through the Ottawa Citizen classifieds, or the Ottawa Sun's.. www.canoe.com - look for sublets, you'll get the apt. cheaper.

The Citizen's website address for rentals:

Pay close attention to the Fisher/Meadowlands/Baseline and Riverside Drive areas.  Also Alta Vista, and Hunt Club.

Affordable family and single living, people, close to malls, without breaking your wallet! :)  and within 1/2 EASY of downtown..if that.

    Easy access to everything.

Good Luck.  And remember, don't rent sight unseen.
