so i imagine your family can be traced to Holland in the 1700's..

  2. try looking in encyclopedias,or a simple google search will help u.

  3. Maestas is a common Hispanic name in the SW United States.

Unfortunately, inexperienced persons will believe houseofnames.com, where this is (one more) example of their incredible stupidity.  (not the poster.. the website).

Any Hispanic based name in the US will often go 'back' THROUGH Mexico, and of course, Mexico has very solid Spanish historical roots.

The surname origins, and your specific ancestry are two completely different processes.  Finding your legitimate ancestors, and valid records concerning them, is not as difficult as you may think.  Using family records, it is normally possible to locate your family in the 1930 census (the most recent one open for searching).

For example.. in the 1900 census for NM.. Antonia Maestas is found, who was born about 1825, and who shows the birth place for HIS parents also to be New Mexico. Of course, during that time frame when the parents were born.. "New" Mexico was part of Mexico itself.  Not that Antonio is your ancestor, but to give you an idea of what information there is.

If your father knows the name of his gr father/ gr grandfather, I can do a search for that person/family in 1930.  That would get you going.

Slightly off topic.. a piece of trivia that would be recognized by American Idol fans ( I confess).. the person taking the census caught my eye.. and was a J.B. Archuleta.

I just wish I had some way to keep persons from being misled by houseofnames.com.

  4. Maybe you can search it...encyclopaedia or any..

  5. This is all I could find for you, the information came from www.ancestry.com
