Worst customer service I've ever had with ANY company, and I'm old! I'm telling everyone I know not to fall victim to this sham of a furniture store. I honestly don't think they have a customer service training program in place for their representatives. From the looks of it, must be a work-release program from prison.

Living Spaces has HORRIBLE business practices. I should've gone to IKEA...

I bought a coffee table and two end tables at Living Spaces one year ago. From the start, I should have known things were going to go wrong. When I asked about getting the set that I wanted that wasn't a floor piece, I was told that they have no idea when new pieces come in and that they don't keep track of inventory. Uhhh okay... That sounds like nonsense but the furniture came in a couple of weeks later, which I found out after calling many times. I paid to have my furniture assembled and delivered, and though it was delivered on time, the end tables were put together wrong and the drawers in them kept falling out. So my ex helped me lug the things back, and we traded them in thinking that just the end tables were made wrong. When my ex put them together though, he realized what had happened. I didn't bother to ask for my money back for the assembly or delivery-- I figured I wouldn't get it.

Fast forward to now: the coffee table I bought has glass inserts, and I broke one of them on accident. I went down to L.S. to ask about getting a replacement, and was told that they would inform the Parts Dept. who would call the manufacturer. I asked if I would get a call that this had been done. No. Bad sign... Two months later, no new glass insert, no call, nothing. I called again today. "Well, we don't know if we can get the glass insert for you. Maybe not. Call in a week." I asked what to do if I couldn't get a new piece of glass. "Will an ordinary piece of glass work?" Jupiter! I don't blame the customer service agent-- I know she was only trying to help-- but what a stupid answer! At this point, I've found the manufacturers phone number on the internet and I'm going to call and see if I can go directly through them. I probably will also file a BBB report as nobody seems to know what is going on over there!

My biggest problem with them is that they REFUSE to call customers about anything. You have to do the legwork yourself. Beyond that, the furniture is c**p, and mine hasn't held up at all and was not worth the money I paid for it. My IKEA furniture may be c**p too, but at least I expected that! Really, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

I was excited about getting some new furniture. We purchased a sofa, reclining chaise and loveseat on 11/9. They delivered the sofa and chaise on the 13th - that was great but it ended there. After several weeks of calling and getting put on hold they finally set up a delivery for 12/7, well no one showed up or called. The next day I called and they said they could be there between 3-6 pm, I said GREAT! Well, again, no loveseat or any communication from Living Spaces. I don't understand how a company can be so inempt when it comes to customer service! Obviously on the 9th we went and purchased another loveseat, now let's see how easily I can cancel my order at Living Spaces, I'm currently "on hold" again right now. I'll never shop there again!

    Caveat Emptor.

Mathis Brothers is the most notorious furniture store in the valley. They overprice and hyper-advertise, have greasy stalker used-car salesmen, often require self-assembly or else charge an exorbant fee, and have a shotty, dated, and locally-inappropriate selection of poorly constructed furniture and merchandise. The products are usually either no-name brands or bottom-of-the-barrel dated name brands. Their TV, entertainment center, and sofa selection was fresh back in 1986. Because the store is so big, they make money on mass-merchandising junk to hordes of new homeowners with bad credit.

I do not recommend their products. Case in point, my co-worker purchased a dining table set which lasted one year before the hidden staples and glue holding it together fell apart. This set looked really nice to begin with but did not hold up. The store refused to repair and was quick to point out the warranty was over.

Second case in point, my neighbor has a one year old micro-suede couch from Mathis. The couch fabric (which is not really suede) had stained with dust and dirt. A week after getting the couch washed by a cleaning service the fabric had shrunk, leaving an unsightly mix of loose and tight wrinkles. The foam cushons lost their shape after 6 months.

Mathis makes their money by selling disposable, short-lasting furniture at questionable prices on easy credit. Caveat Emptor.
