My daughter is slightly OCD, maybe gifted and is obsessed with making outfits out of her clothes. She spend hours designing different outfits and even adds adds shoes, hairbows and her fake jewelry to complet the outfit. She spreads the outfits out around the room. I want to encourage this possible gift she has, but what activites or classes can she do since she is only 5? She hasn't been diagnosed with OCD, but we have seen signs from since she was a toddler.

  1. go to goggle

type in enchanted learning there's loads of child friendly activities that will keep you going.

  2. Sounds like maybe paper dolls would be a great activity for her

  3. Here are some things you can try :)

    Paper dolls

    barbies with lots of cloths

Also you get her to lay in a cloth she likes an turn untill the begining of the cloth touches the other part of the cloth

have mom sew it together add straps

, buy some crayons for fabric and......

let her color the dress shaped cloth

    add straps

if she still lkes to design when shes older get her a game called designers world

\this game plugs into the TV

  4. You could also buy aprons, bags, and even flip flops to decorate. Let her use fabric paints or permanent markers to decorate with stencils or without. Michael's and Hobby Lobby have all kinds of foam shapes and jewel type craft items that she could glue to these items. Maybe even see if she wants to cover some photo books or scrap books. What a fun activity the two of you could do together too!

  5. Trace her body onto a large sheet of paper like butcher paper.  If possible, put it onto a heavy backing like a poster or the tri-fold display boards.  Give her all kinds of materials to use including fabric, sequins, shoelaces, ribbons, etc. to design clothes onto her life-size self.  Take her favorite design and help her to create it.

Another idea is to have her help you learn to sew clothes from patterns.  Start with the "simple" ones, like Sewing for Dummies.  She can help with almost all of the aspects from folding the fabric correctly to laying out the pieces to pinning them.  You'll probably want to do the cutting yourself unless she has extremely refined fine motor skills as I find this is the step that needs to be done perfectly for the end result to come out.  The most fun is piecing the parts together to see how they come together.  Honestly, after helping you with a couple of these, she may be able to do the majority of the outfit herself, short of the sharp-and-pointy tools parts.

Props to you for encouraging her to keep at it!

  6. I think you buy her dolls of different sizes and provide her with cloth to make clothes for the dolls. This will be fun for her and she might be able to develop her estimation skills and cretivity. Many young toddlers like doing this. They all like dolls.

  7. when i helped at a school recently the children all made their own outfits. they had plain white cloth and some sponges cut into different shapes. potatoe shapes would work just as well and then made patterns onto them. and then with the help of an adult make it into certain pieces of clothing such as a dress. could also try making outfits using junk modelling.
