A Trinity Knot uses a compass to tie the knot. Perhaps this would be what you are looking for.

Since you found the name unsearchable presumably, you need to describe the knot you have in mind.  Are you talking about a 4 or 8 pointed rosette type of knot?   Why is it called a compass knot based on your experience?
