  1. Will this help???

  2. I have given the link to the National Archives for Executioners. Whilst on there I did put in the search box the surname of Brenchley. There are hundreds of items for the Brenchley family, and some dating back to the 1300's. Could be that there may be some links not only to your G Nans husband, but also his ancestors.

Brenchley seems a very prolific name in Kent.

  3. I'm not sure, but have you tried contacting the prisons or parishes where he was known to be working? If they were employed by the prison, they should have staff lists. Otherwise try looking for the records of those that were hanged, and perhaps it will detail the names of the executioners too.

If you don't know where abouts he was working, have you tried looking through the censuses for this time period? He will most probably be working in or around the parish where he was living, and that will narrow down your research.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

  4. From memory: Berry, Billington, Ellis, Pierrepoint, Allen (of Manchester), Allen (of Birmingham), Wade, Stewart, Dernley, Critchell, Willis, Baxter, Kirk, Rickard, Plant, Mann, There has been no Executioner named "Brenchley" (from 1890 - 1964.)
