Currently in my aquarium I have the following...

in a 30 gallon aquarium

3 sun-fire platies (unsure on gender)

4 female guppies

1 male guppy

6 female betta fish (whom get along very well together)

2 albino aeneus cory cats

10 small freshwater snails

The aquarium itself contains 8 live plants of various kinds

and a smooth gravel base.

I am looking to expand upon the fish/plants/decor which I have in my aquarium and I was wondering if anyone would give reccomendations.

  1. sounds very much like one my tank but sword tails, platies neon tetras, black widows, and 1 convict, 1 eletric yellow, and 1 blue peacock i have only one cus they gang up on the guppies when there in a pack but yer they all get alone very well and have 10000000's of babies

  2. you will soon have more guppies and snails that you will know what to do with. and the plants will grow.

if you really want more fish, i would recommend some small tetras like neons or cardinals. they are schoolers, so you need a minimum of 6. 10 is better.

and/or 6 or so zebra danios. they swim constantly all over the place and add movement to the tank.

if the guppies get out of hand, add small angels. they can keep the baby guppies under control. they don't really go after adults.

a clown loach will watch the snails, but it could get them all.

  3. Add about 3 more Cory Cats and I would stick to that.  Sounds like you have a very diverse tank.

    Love ya got 6 Betta's.

Beware of the Platy explosion...not knowing what s*x the Sun Fire's are...could give ya some fry...even with the one male guppy...ya could have some fry...but ya did it right, more females than males.

I would take out bout 8 of your snails and keep 2...this is something else that will explode in population.  Take em to the local pet store for adoption or Petco sometimes will adopt out fish and snails...at least mine does.

Try also sticking a small log decor for the Cories to hide in.  A bit more plant cover will give your female betta's some more hiding spots...even though they get along fine...bet ya there still is a pecking order.

    Best of Luck!

  4. get some more plants and rocks. i found that a few rainbowfish look nice too.
