  1. talk to your local fire department or ambulance service about the safest models and their installation.

  2. To best recommend a seat, I'd actually need to know her age, height, weight, your budget and vehicle. :) If you really mean ratings, that's hard to come by - car seat techs do not rely upon Consumer Reports for car seat ratings, as they don't release their testing methods, which mean no one can duplicate their tests to proove the results so they're worthless. Also, they consistently give high ratings to seats that don't last long and are difficult to use, while putting down easy to use seats that last children a long time. Why? Because they put the biggest focus on price. Yes, its part of the package, but not the most important part.

Anyways, word of warning, most combo seats stink. lol That is b/c most only go to 40lbs and then you must use them as a booster, and to top it off, most of them make crappy boosters that don't position the belt well. I shelled out $60 for a combo seat (EVenflo CHase DLX) for my son b/c the box said 20-80lbs, and then had to stop using it 6 months later when my 2.5 year old son reached 40lbs. So there's really only 1-2 combo seats worth getting.

Graco Nautilus - $130-150 harnesses to 65lbs with 19" top slots, then becomes a great booster like the Turbobooster. Easy to use, easy to install, keeps most kids harnessed to 7 years old. This is really important as kids should stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. The bare minimum for safe booster use is 4 years old and 40lbs and experts recommend waiting at least until they are 5-6 years old.

Britax Frontier - $279 harnesses to 80lbs with 18.25 inch top slots, then becomes the tallest booster available. Very comfy, comes in lots of colors. No rethread harness makes it very easy to use.

Britax Regent - $279 harnesses to 80lbs with 20 inch top slots, so this one will keep her harnessed longer than any other seat on the market. If she's average sized or smaller, the Regent is probably overkill, and it does not become a booster. My son needed it though - 41" tall and 40lbs at 3 years old, he needs it to even get to 4-5 years old in a harness!

The Safety1st Apex65/Signature Biltmore deserves to be at the bottom of the list - it says it harnesses to 65lbs, but most kids won't get there b/c of 17 inch top slots. Its a flimsy seat and the headrests in your vehicle MUST adjust at least as t

all as the middle of the Apex65 headrest in the talelst position. This is b/c the cheap seat has no support in the back so requires support from the vehicle seat. Only plus to this seat: slightly cheaper at often $99 online.

Don't glance at the other common combo seats: Evenflo Chase/Generations Safety1st/Eddie Bauer Summit, etc. Not worth the money as they all have a 40lbs harness.

  3. Go to websites ( BabysRus) or any other store that sell car seats to see what kind they sell and a lot of them have ratings from people who bought them. You could also look at the brand name website.
