Any help would be much appreciated! This is for a startup that aims to introduce people to the world of buying art (from up and coming artists).

  1. I would imagine they would be the younger 20 - 40 somethings who are getting either their first apartment or first house. I think once you are into your 50s you either have bought some type of art or know what your tastes are.

I would also talk about all mediums. I know people who think they can't afford art but, when it comes down to it, that poster your bought for your room is still art. Also how to recognise quality art and to know if the price is over priced or 'in line' with the medium. It is scary to purchase something and then wonder if you were just ripped off.

Maybe also include listings for young artists whos prices maybe more in reach of someone who is getting their first place. For instance, I can afford $100 for a picture for my house but, I cannot afford a $500 piece.

I have a love/hate relationship with eBay, I have found some wonderful up and coming artists there whos art I can afford. But, you have to weed out a TON of art that is 'recreations' from people in China and I don't want to buy from China, unless it is authentic Chinese art (in otherwords, I don't want to purchase a copy of Monet from them). So maybe a listing of eBay stores for up and coming artists that tells their eBay store name is appreciated. To help us find them with out sorting through TONS of art.

As for what we want...well, all mediums in an affordable price range. You can't just say abstract or modern because, for instance my place is more of the French Country or almost Arts and Crafts in style. An Ultra modern painting would look funny (I fear).

Also talking about colors and color choices in the painting. I have shied away from purchasing art for my place because, I was afraid the colors in the painting would clash with the decor I already have in my  house. Are there rules on that? or do you just purchase what you like.

So, sorry for the rambleness of this but, if you do get something prepared for the lay person...would you please let me know because, I sorely need to purchase art for my place. And could use advice.

    Keep in mind...affordable, affordable, affordable...
