  1. There are many different types of "active play"...Some really general ideas that add into some creativity are:

-ANIMAL WALKS: Have a number of slips of paper with an animal written on each one.  Place all of the papers in a hat or basket, etc.  The children's goal is to choose an animal and walk like that animal (loping, stomping, flying, running, etc. along with animal noises!) to a specific spot and back!   * This is a great activity for large motor skills, coordination, creativity, and fun!

    - WHICH BALL?: Have a large basket or container with different types of balls in it.  Have each child take a turn choosing a ball.  Discuss what sport uses that type of ball and give the children the task of playing that sport for 5 minutes, before choosing another ball

    * This activity would teach socialization, gross motor skills, coordination and more1

    - SOUND CHARADES: Have a tape with different sounds on it (different animal noises, water sounds, wind, rain, a truck or car, etc.).  Have the children all stand, spread out in an area.  Play the tape- For the entire time that sound is going on, the children have to think of something that goes along with that sound (I.E.- Pretending to swim during the water noises, etc.)

*This is an active and cognitive/ creativity activity in which the kids get to exercise their minds in coming up with actions as well as gross motor from acting them out.

Those are just a few ideas- I always try to infuse creativity and fun into any activity!

    Hope this helps!

  2. Reece's pieces:

1.Group of people stand in circle

2.One person says to anyone in the circle: “hey 'there name'”

    3.Then they say: “I can't”

4.The first person says: “hey 'there name'”

    5.The second person say: “I can't”

6.Then the first person says: “why not?”

7.And he/she replay: “my head hurts my heads not right my booty shakes from the left to the right!”

8.Then everyone in the circle says: “to the left to the left, to the right to the right, Reece's peaces buttercup you mess with me I'll mess you up!”

9.Then you repeat this with the second person then choosing another person in the circle.

    Splat:

    1.Stand in a circle

2.One person in the middle (the splat master)

3.The splat master splats somebody in the circle with his/her hands in a gun form

4.The person being splat has to duck then the two people either side have to splat each other

5.The slowest person is out, and if the person being splat doesn’t duck he/she is out!

6.Then the splat master has to continue to splat people!

7.Once there is 2 people left they have to stand back to back and the splat master has to come up with a random magic word, e.g. ‘chocolate’

8.The splat master says lots of random words and for every word said the last 2 contestants take one space away from each other

9.Eventually the splat master will say the magic word he has chosen to say and the two opponents must splat each other.

    10.The quickest person wins!

    count:

1.Everyone lies down in a circle. With some object in the middle to focus on.

2.They must concentrate and as a group count to 20 with only one person saying a number at a time.

3.If 2 or more people say a number at the same time you start again.

4.The aim is to say as many numbers in order as possible without more than one person saying at a time.

5.The same person cannot say 2 numbers in a row!

    These are childrens drama games!

  3. I have a 3 and a 10 year old.  Both of them practice yoga with me when I practice at home.  I have seen that the both of them are nicer to one another and claimer.  They feel more relaxed.

I also play broad games with them.  We play twister most of time..Which is really fun for the littler ones.

Also to get them to use their mind.  We play dress up and theater.  It gets the kids to think and use their imaganation..  Yesterday, we got chased by the "little people" who wanted their gold back. It is really fun to watch how there minds work. It was outside, so we had a lot of places to hide.

Is this for a class or just your own kids..

  4. Large motor!!!!  Get those guys moving.  They want to move around a lot at this age.  Many of the contributors with backgrounds in this area have a common practice......let them move or they will do it on their own!!  Your "job" is to model behavior and have an environment that promotes THE CHILDREN having ownership of the activity....IE. assigning roles, problem solving, creating props etc.  Try not to have a outcome or goal that you see ......let them make this on their own.(if they even want one?)  How good that you have some age ranges like this.  A lot of exchange will take place here.  I love dramatic play, freeze dancing to music, face painting with each other (use water color pencils . You cant beat them for longevity/safety.....let them do the painting, not you) Think of 6 selves ,social, emotional, cognitive, creative, physical and cultural. With some cardboard boxes, paint, props, music you could do a very very cheap activity that could encompass all of this.  You facilitate......let them take it where they want.

  5. check out file folder games....www.kromansinc.com

  6. Rounders-with soft balls! It's active, gets them outdoors and its got easy rules!!! They learn the physical skills running, stopping, batting, throwing ball and bodily awareness but also the social side of sharing, turn taking and following rules.

Otherwise you have things like treasure hunt, music games like musical chairs and musical statues (There dont have to be prizes) and age grouped races/obstacle courses.

  7. hide and seek games for the younger ones they like to seek stuffed animals you can give them riddels like its red it roarrs ,etc.

    Black and white

draw a line one sid is black the other white tell this to the kids and then start saying black  the kids go to the black section white is to the white section go faster and faster

    running games:

each kid gets 3 laundry pins and they have to try to get rid of them by pinning them on an other kids clothes and try to escape and stay laundry pin free

you can play name games to if every on now the names
