Ask his parents where they got the name from and maybe you can use that as a starting point. Use other net places other than google to find out the meaning of your grandson's name. Also, you could spend time at a library and take time out looking through the baby name books there. Maybe a librarian can help you find an answer. Good luck!

Are you looking for the meaning of the first name or the last name?

I've had a lot of success by Googling: surname [insert his name here] origin

Example:

surname Smith origin

You might also try playing around with other ways of saying it:

surname Smith ancestry

surname Smith history

Smith coat of arms

For first names you might try something like:

Meaning name John

Origin name John

Once you discover the ethnicity of the name, it may be easier to find the meaning, but what you do from there will depend on the ethnicity.  Scottish ancestry, for example, have clan websites where you could seek further assistance.

It may be also, that he has an alternative spelling for his name (first or last names).  Some spellings are less common, but a general google of the name might bring up suggestions for alternative spellings, or you could try Googling:

Try this link for ancestry.com (this database is free)_.  If you only want to search a first name, type any common surname in search box, then you'll see a 1st name search box in the middle of the page.  It's always worked for me.

Have you gone to the library and looked in name books? There are many-or look in a book store-There are many that have strange new name  as well as the old stand bys-you should have just asked whats the meaning of .... ... and probably someone with a book would have looked it up for you-Ask over in the baby section Lots of people looking at names there
