The competition is so keen these days that most of the cameras on the market are good quality. Just decide what it is that you want to do with it and buy a camera to suit your needs. I have a Canon and like it a lot. If you get anything over 3X zoom, be sure the camera has some sort of Image Stabilization built in, or most of your 'zoom' pictures won't turn out. Good luck......

I did a lot of research and found Canon PowerShot SD870 is to be the best camera for the money. (8.3 Megapixel, 3.8x Optical Zoom, 4x Digital Zoom, 3" LCD) Price starts at $235.

This camera is totally awesome! Takes very high quality pictures at a very fast speed. I highly recommend it for its small size, image stabilizer and long life rechargeable battery.

From the first day I received it. I just love it. Great shots up close and far away. Moreover, this is a very handy, tiny and light camera that you can carry in your pocket without feeling it.

The screen is huge and the colors are really good.

Menus and settings are very easy and clear. Some tips appear on the screen when you are using different modes, it is very helpful.
