I am going to buy a new bike. Probably a Giant Yukon.. I was looking at the Yukon FX, but don't know if I really all the fancy stuff...

I am 15, I like riding hard, but I don't like the bike i have now. I'm not comfortable on it.

I had a yukon two summers ago and loved it, the thing was fricken indestructable! I think i am going to buy another one.

I was just wondering is it worth the extra to get the full suspension and so on? or not really.

Also, can you lock the rear suspension? Wouldn't that suck your power if your riding on the road?

Thanks!

  1. Giant makes great bikes. I have ridden them for the last 8 years. The Yukon FX is a good bike. I'm not sure if you can lock the rear suspension on it or not. Some bikes you can, others you cant. And yes, rear shocks do take away from your downforce when pedaling. It would be nice if you can lock it. I have always ridden hardtail for that reason. I only have one bike that I ride on/off road, which sucks because mine is strictly off road.

Full suspension is worth it if you plan on jumping or ride a lot of rough terrain. I'd recommend getting one that you can lock the front and rear suspension.

  2. I love Giant bikes, I have 3 of them. I don't think you can lock out the FX's rear suspention. Plus on the Yukon FX it is just a basic Giant in-house shock, nothing to great.

The Yukon FX runs about 750-800ish. And is still considered a "sport" mountain bike by Giant so its still pretty entry level.

If I were in your shoes I would go with the XTC 1. It is a step above the entry level "sport" bikes and is considered a "performace hardtail."

It's a much better bike for just about the same money, just not full suspention (which I think is over rated)

The XTC 1 has a Marzocchi MZ Race, 100mm suspension fork where as the Yukon has a RockShock Dart 2. All the Rock Shock Front Suspensions are really entry level and have alot more weight to them the the Marzocchi.

Also the XTC 1 has hydraulic disc breaks whereas the Yukon FX only has mechanical. And just better overall parts, shifters and etc.

And the XTC comes is a sweet red color.
