At the moment prices are very high. is it possible there will be better deals nearer the time? Do companies traditionally reduce their prices at any point before December? I want to go 4* or 5* all inclusive!

This is high season over here in Puerto Plata, so you have to book with your travel agent on time.

Yes, at times they actually do. If you want to wait until the very last minute, you can get some very good deals at reduced costs.

But, keep in mind, December is high season and is a very busy time of year for these destinations.

What you'll find is that closer to about 1-4 weeks prior to departure deals will start and about 1-2 weeks you can get awesome last minute deals.

The best thing to do is search and shop online and then speak to a travel agent IN PERSON from any of those agencies that you like and want to travel with. Most agencies will match and even give you lower rates to the same trip if you want to book with them. You can gain more flexibility and make requests for the type of hotel room and floor you want if you speak to them in person.

Once something is booked online, you won't be able to get a good price match or reduction, as well as specific requests.
