You may have noticed there are 2 "flavors" of HDTV: 720p and 1080(i or P).  The 1080 has more resolution, but for this price range, i would recommend you stick with the 40+ inch size and 720p.  To get a 1080 HDTV for under $1000, you would have to drop down to a 32 inch screen size.  At these small screen sizes you would have to be within 1 or 2 feet of the screen to notice the difference, so get the bigger size screen.

I bought a 50 inch, and was worried it would be too big.  Boy was I wrong.  Even on a 720p signal, I wish I would have gotten the 60 incher.  The picture is amazing.

    Have fun.

  3. I'd get a Sharp Aquos. I have one, and the picture quality is A++.

  4. I bought a 37" Olevia from target. I love it except it takes a little bit to warm up. It got really good reviews from consumer reports. It was easy to setup, picked up HD channels without an antenna hooked up & works great with my wii. Its was less than $700. PS don't get a plasma they die out quicker.

  5. get plasma it doesnt smudge and has better quality

we bought a 52 inch hitachi plasma for 1000

    supports 1080p, hdtv, its amazing

  6. I have a Toshiba 32 inch LCD  with Toshiba you cant go wrong .. Plasma TVs are way over rated  and will die way sooner then LCD's    Some mentioned LG they are also great   Good luck .
