that you can only have them on for a certain amount of time because they start getting hot .Is that true ?I bought my deck top from Dell on the internet do you think its better buying it directly from the company or go to an out let like Best Buy or Circuit City ?

  1. Buy Leopard from Apple--it is a great system and you get good customer support especially if there is an Apple store nearby.  MacMall.com

  2. go to an actual store, and let them optimize it, and try some  out, maybe u dont like the keyboard, or size

  3. I think some brands are better than others re getting hot, but yes they do. I mean burning-your-lap hot! My Sony, Compaq and IBM Thinkpad were all like that, although the Sony was okay for the first year.

If you use it on a tabletop and prop it on a dock, it has better airflow and won't get as hot. Then you can use it all day long. You can also buy little fans that hook into the USB port to give them some extra cooling.

Re mail order vs. stores, I prefer Best Buy because when something goes wrong, I want to be able to take it to a person, not ship it to be fixed.

  4. Newer laptops have been optimized to lower the heat near the processor. Most new laptops only get warm, and nowhere near the intense heat of older laptops. And even if you end up buying a laptop that heats up after a while, you can always buy a laptop fan for about $15 that sits below the laptop and uses a fan to blow air onto it.

Be wary of macmall.com (and their sister store, pcmall.com) as they have had bad customer relations, sometimes selling used computers as new ones.
