It all depends on what picture quality you've looking for. You have 720p which is TV broadcast, and 1080p which is true HD.

To get true HD, you need a HDTV1080p, a Blue-ray Disc player, and a HDMI cable.

If you get a HDTV 720p, you will receive broadcast HD 720p.

Sony and Toshiba are of the finest in quality.

Brightness, contrast and width of viewing angle (some are so narrow people have to huddle together for all to see a good picture. I've no advice on brands; models & features change too often.
