Are there any 50cc 4 stroke engines that can go that fast? I have been looking also at the vino 125 by yamaha I think....any info on top speeds for that would be helpful as well.

I also found a scooter called Sicilian 150 with a retro look but cannot find out who manufactures it.

thanks for any help.

  1. A 50cc will be too slow: go for a 2 stroke 125 or 4 stroke 250. The weight of the rider is also a big factor in scooter top speed.

Try your local Piaggio or Aprilia dealer: they have plenty of retro style scooters.

Japanese scooters are usually more modern but reliable and good resale/practicality. Suzuki make a 250cc 4 stroke called a Bergman and I'm sure there are others.

Go to the dealers, get all the info, then walk away and think about it for a week or so. Use this time to do some internet research: does anyone know some good scooter websites?

See if you can haggle: try and at least get a helmet and lock thrown into the deal.

  2. Yoyu can't go on the freeway with an engine that small.  Start looking at the 250cc and up.

  3. 4 strokes dont go that fast ...They state 40 as the top speed, but they do go about 48, which for me was just right. I just bought the yamaha c 3 cus i liked the features over the other ones, and i'm not usually in that big of a hurry to get anywhere. (my 20 minute drive to work, now takes me 30 -33 minutes, so no big deal) ...the features i like, beside the comfort, is the amount of storage under the seat and the wider tires....and the extremely low maintenance,(some of the others mix the oil and gas, and have filters to change and carburetors etc)... also dont need special license or insurance either, which saves a lot.

But if you have to have a higher speed, then the yamaha vino, 125 is also a good choice. Have fun scootin'

  4. No, if your scooter is a moped, it will never go 60mph, unless a cliff is involved.

The speed of mopeds is restricted to 25, to 35 miles per hour, and must be opperated where speed limits are also 25-35 mph. i.e. in your neighborhood.

The 125cc yamaha is closer to that, but still the engine is rather small, might be 45-50 mph.  The 150 is still 50-55 mph, you will need a 200 cc engine to have a long and safe career doing 60 mph. (Yamaha Riva 200z? mid-80s) not in production any longer. and at that it will only get you in trouble on the expressway. (Pickup trucks will pull you from your chosen lane and attempt to drag you in their wake as they pass by.)

Roketa is an importer, and at the price point, you can figure it is Chinese made, trying to fool you into believing that it is a Vespa (an italian made scooter, not even close), 3 month warranty and most parts are not stocked . Note: They never list ANYTHING RELATED TO SPEED.  That ought to be your first clue! They are a crooked company intent on making you think you got something you did not pay for.

In actuality you got nothing that you did pay for and it will break down quickly. It is virtually DISPOSABLE! It may not even be certified to pass EPA regulations and therefor cannot be licensed on the city street in the US of A.

I saw an article on a blog some months ago, The author of the blog was riding a BARON scooter back and forth (250cc scooter)to work.  He went to a scooter marketer convention, and there were many CHINESE companies.

His friend from Baron, looked at a Chinese importers'  wares, and began to turn red and the veins in in his head and neck began to pop out. The blogger thought he was having an apoplectic fit. He then pointed out to the blogger that the chinese importer was USING HIS EPA CERTIFICATE! He went to find the cops and shut them down. He spent thousands of dollars for the testing he had done, and that the Chinese company ignored.  That's how they make a profit...

  5. Look at Kymco and Hyosung they have many sizes and should be able to supply one like you need. They are very good and reliable. They are not imported  Chinese junk.

  6. To cruise at 60 you need at least 250cc. None of the 150 or less will cruise that fast. Don't buy an off brand.

  7. Check out the Yamaha Zuma 125. I'm not sure how fast it goes but it should have enough to blow your skirt up & put a smile on your face.

  9. Vespa and Aprilia are great scooters, they're both made by Italian manfucturer Piaggio. Unfortunately 50 cc 4 stroke engines don't have much giddy-yup.

  10. you're female so i'm going to assume you're light.... you should be able to top out a 150 (four stroke) at 55-60....

but keep in mind that's topping out, you said you want one that will atleast do 60... (do you have experience on motorized bikes? when you start going it seems like you're going alot faster then you are... that asphalt can be intimidating sometimes) you are gonna wanna look at 200cc+

of course this goes for the average scooter... i'm sure there are a few exceptions out there
