My father is helping me pay for it, but he said he would only let me pay up to $1000 for it, but it would be mostly his money anyhow. So I wanted to know where to look and what flaws should turn me away. Keep in mind, there are no mechanics in my family. Thanks.

  1. junkyard or toy store

sorry but you need to spend more than $1,000.

    $4,000 is more reasonable.

spending more at the start will cost you less in repairs and service. especially since your not able to do any work yourself.

$1,000 will buy you wrecks and cars that need major overhauls.

these cars can be found in the $3K to $4,000 range

    98 Acura CL

    98 Ford Mustang V6

    98 Honda Accord or Civic

    98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder

    98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy

98-00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

be aware insurance and gasoline are going to cost you at the very least $200 a month.

also consider low priced cars are probably going to need new tires $500?

keep saving your money and don't buy junk.

  2. There are tons of used cars for under $1,000 but not having any mechanics on the family makes them all dangerous bets. Look for something like an early '90s Accord or Civic. I sold my '92 to a neighbor kid a few years ago for $900.00. It was in nearly perfect shape but it had something like 280,000 miles on it. Now it has well over 300,000 miles on it and all it has needed so far was a battery.

In fact, besides regular maintainence, that car only needed a clutch, radiator, and some electronic relay in the entire time I owned it.

  3. craigslist.com

  4. sign to pass on .... walk a round look ing at tires for uneven wear look under for any wet spots on the car or ground..... check the tail pipe for  dry black or wet black... check the oil and other fluids any low or see any oil good bet is not to get it

  5. Try going to a car auction. Some of them have cars for as cheap as $500. When you go, you should get to see if the car leaks any fluids and listen for any funny noises. Also make sure that the air conditioning and heater works properly.
