  1. You can easily buy a "learner" bike second hand and sell it for the same price you paid for it. DO NOT go straight from a 125cc to an R6... you will end up hurting yourself and possibly others. Not to mention the insanely high insurance for an R6 just coming off your L plates.

Get a late 90's CB500, GS500 or similar... enjoy that for about a year before thinking of getting an R6.

    Also, highly recommended... www.bikesafe.co.uk

  2. Makes perfect sense.

For about a week when you drop the new R6 - or worse crash it.

There's no skipping riding safety.  You need to ride a small and easy to control bike for about 2 years before you can safely handle a more powerful bike.

From your question - if seems like you have the mistaken idea that "learner's" bike is for use during the learner's PERMIT riding. NO!!  It is for your first YEAR to your second YEAR of riding.

My FIRST BIKE was a 400 class bike, and I almost kill myself on the FIRST DAY when I almost flip the bike over my head.

I wish somebody would have told me this back when I was 18.

    Good Luck....

  3. If you think you can afford an R6 or R8 (RC8?), you can afford to approach it sensibly and buy a learner and then get something more suitable when you have learned – the RC8 is over £10,000! You might also be able to afford the insurance, helmet and other gear and a long holiday.
