  1. First you could check your camera, some allow you to plug in a anologe device (VHS recorder) into it and then you can capture it to your computer look at the handbook.

if you cant then you need a device to convert it. Dazzle do one that isnt that expensive. The mini dv tapes are not a problem. As any of the video editing packages will let you capture from mini dv (tapes)

if you are on a budget then just get a dvd writer about £30

the converters are a little more expensive have a look here just to give you an idea

if i have it wrong then email me and i will explain  in more detail

    good luck

  2. As long as you don't want to edit your movies, one of those dual VHS to DVD would suit you for your home movies. They do not however copy copyrighted material.

  3. I'm not in a position to recommend one brand over another, but I would suggest you visit a Richer Sounds shop, if you have one in your area.  They give excellent advice on your options and their prices are really good.  Their shops are small and more like a warehouse, with a "pile it high, sell it cheap" philosophy.  This is deliberate, to keep costs down, and they pass these savings on to the customers.

  4. Remember that DVD recording is going Blu-ray. Yes, they cost a little more but they are the future. If you buy other types you will save money but will lag behind in technology.

  5. i bought a toshiba and it did well for a little while, now I can never burn the DVD, so the disc can be played in any DVD player. So, stay away from Toshiba.
