  1. You can have anything with whole grains that doesn't rely on refined sugar, in fact try for something that has as little sugar or sweetener in it as possible.

Maybe buy sugarfree pudding and have it with fresh fruit.

Fruit, whole grains, dairy products - all are mostly permitted at this stage of the South Beach Diet.

Because I'm a med student and a hospital intern, I'm VERY familiar with fad diets, mainly because of disillusioned and disappointed patients that come and go with a myriad of issues caused by the diets or just with questions about their diet that they ask while getting treatment for other issues.

Remember, the South Beach Diet is a fad, it is not a reliable diet and it relies on ketosis in stage 1 and then basic principles that everyone should live by through stage 2 onwards (whole grains, less refined foods and more raw fruits and vegetables). South Beach Diet was created by Dr. Agatston, who used it as a platform to sell out the South Beach Diet name to Kraft foods, spawning off TV dinners, lousy processed puddings and cookies and snacks. It is just like anything else - a brand and a product.

Eat a diet rich in various fruits and vegetables, fresh or steamed as often as possible, always choose whole grains and brown rice, and avoid white breads and white rice. Eat lean protein and heart-healthy fats.

It's not difficult, you don't need some modern fad book to tell you how to eat. Your body was carved through millions of years of evolution, do you think that Dr. Agatston somehow could have found out, in the last ten years, some magical secret to eating healthy that nobody's thought of before? It's just rehash of a medley of other diets and tricks. Be smart, eat a balanced diet, and EXERCISE. Food is not even the issue as much as your activity level. There is no pill or potion that will ever replace getting off your behind, sadly.
