I am looking to volunteer with an organization that helps to prevent gang violence in LA or SF?

Question

The son of my fathers good friend was killed in a case of mistaken identity by gang violence. I am trying to find an organization that I can volunteer with that helps deal with the issue of minimizing gang violence. I have tried volunteermatch.org but have had no success finding ANY info. I am interested in finding any organizations in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you in advance! R.I.P Junior!

While your cause is a noble one for sure, I think the reason that you are not finding the results you seek is because this field is inherently dangerous and no one is going to put volunteers in the line of fire, so to speak.  You might instead volunteer in the prisons of SF or LA to work with gang members who may be up for release/parole and need some direction to steer them away from their old habits.
