  1. the best way i have found to use fondant is to roll it out with a rolling pin...if you don't have one then a glass will be fine...and then just lay it over the cake...and you can do the same for shapes...and i've used the drops...it just takes kneading together...folding and kneading...

  2. This long, skinny spatula (in the center) is the best for smoothing icing or fondant onto a cake.  If you don't have one, find something in your kitchen tools that is also long and not serrated on one side, like a long bread knife.

You will get better color if you use the paste colorings rather than drops.  The drops would need so many drops to get good, rich color, that you would have to add too much liquid which would dilute the fondant to the wrong consistency.

  3. Find something in the kitchen with a flexible plastic lid, like a can of coffee.  Cut out the center and use it like a spatula.  We don't do artificial colors so sorry, can't help there.

The right tool is hard to find unless you go to a specialty store.  If you really want one, check out getting it online.
