  1. The very BEST situation would be if your husband can have a job that pays well enough to support all 3 of you.  It is difficult to get a work permit and wages are very low.  If you are a non-professional, your chances of getting a work permit are very low and the work would pay at most $10.00 a day...probably less.   You must find an employer to hire you and write a letter to immigration stating he cannot find a Mexican citizen for that job.  He must sponsor your work permit, then your permit is tied to that specific job. A job in a factory or store is not going to qualify.    If you have money to invest and start your own business, you can get a visa to do that.  You CAN come on a 6 month tourist visa and give life in Mexico a trial period.  You must return to the border for a day or 2 every 6 months then re-enter on a new tourist card.  To get an FM3 which permits you to legally reside in Mexico for a year at a time, you must show proof of  income from the U.S. every month ...usually $1200, but I believe this is cut in half if you are maried to a Mexican citizen.  This visa must be re-newed yearly and requires proof of income.  You are in a difficult postion and there is no easy answer.  I have  corresponded with several young women in exactly the same position in recent months.  If you do come to Mexico be absolutely sure that you and the baby have American passports..they will be required even for land travel by next summer...and you want to be SURE to protect the American citizenship of the baby.  She can also have Mexican citizenship and a Mexican passport through the Mexican consulate in the U.S. or the INM (immigration) office here in Mexico.  If you do live in Mexico and ever have another child...born in Mexico...be ABSOLUETLY sure to register the birth with the American Embassy in Mexico City so the baby will also be an American citizen...do this within 30 days of the birth...the baby will have dual citizenship.  If you do not register the birth at the American embassy, this child  could easily be denied entrance to the U.S.  I would recommend you come to Mexico on a 6 month tourist card for a trial...be SURE to get the full 180 days on your card...sometimes they try to give you 90...tell them you need the  full 180 days.  Best NOT to mention you are going to stay with the baby's father as they will think you are trying to "move" to Mexico, not visit...and they do not lke illegal immigrants either.  I hope thngs work out well for you.

  2. hey  there... well i agree with the lady about the passport and all that stuff..

I know from my own experience, many people specially from france come here to work as a language teachers, I've been talking to them , and it seems to me due to long hours of chatting, the wages in mexico for foreign language teachers are similar to those offered in france or belgium..  measured by Purchase Power Parity.

in other words, they make end meets in mexico when in belgium they don't.

the same applies to the jobs offered in spain for people who own a bachelor's diploma, one thousand euro earners locally called "mileuristas".

the same position in mexico is paid a little bit more 7500 pesos, but measured in purchase power parity, the wages in mexico GIVE YOU THE SAME purchase power or perhaps a little bit more.

Top chief executives of Mexican firms, and even in the middle levels earn more than thier counterparts in the U.S. or Europe.

So you are not moving in the wrong direction  if you want to get a job ,teaching english is your best option , you are skilled, at least you are fluent in a foreign language, so the wages are totally different to those offered to mexican unskilled people.

it's very interesting to me and revealing, after reading this article, i realized why british women usually are working in mexico as a foreign language teacher specially the ones who don't have a bachelor diploma (unskilled in UK, SKILLED in mexico)

WELL, once in mexico you ought to find the nearest private catholic school and  start giving away flyers with your info , offering your services as an native english teacher,  GOOD LUCK, and do all the paper work to get your mexican residence.

if the U.S. economic downturn continues deteriorating, more people will try to seek jobs as an ENGLISH teacher in mexico.

    see you.
