  1. Don't buy furnitures that is too big. buy furnitures that you know it can make your room look bigger.

don't buy appliances that is really big.

dont paint your room dark colors. paint your room with light, cool colors like light pink or light green paints..

  2. Keep it simple and uncluttered.

Understand two myths.  Myth white or light walls make a room look larger.  Wrong.  Bright colors jump towards you.  Dark colors receed.  Avoid bright walls - such as white.  Paint one wall deeper than the others as a focal point and to have it receed more - adding depth.  Consider dropping the ceiling paint down onto the upper one foot of wall space - this will raise your ceiling.

Myth two - Small furniture should be used in small rooms.  Wrong - small/small creates a doll house effect.  A few large pieces creates a focus on the furniture, and less on the room.

Simple is better - nothing shrinks a room like clutter.

A framed mirror on the wall will add dimension.  Always consider what will be reflected in the mirror.  Reflecting a window will amplify a room much more than reflecting an image of a closet door - for example.

Try to have a single, powerful focal point in the room - perhaps you could use strong bedding to capture attention.  Visually if you "discover" the room in layers or different levels rather than all at once it will seem to grow.

If you are really space and storage challenged - make sure that you use the space under your bed,  Consider raising it up - you can always loft, but simple risers from a linen store will gain you a lot of storage cheap, and you will still have a ground level bed.  If you can install shelves do so - high on the wall and use attractive storage boxes for less frequently used items,

    Hope that this helps...

  3. Well definitely smaller furniture, but to make a room feel bigger, mirrors on the walls can help, just a few here and there.

  4. Keep it light in color and light in number of peices in the room.  Just a Couple of well placed peices for furniture and a great deal of organization can keep the room neat and tidy which in turn will help make the room look bigger.

The Mirror is a good idea, just don't make it out of scale for the room.

A mural that tricks the eye may help too- see: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url...
