I am moving to America in 2 months. Will you give me some advice?

We are moving to USA in 2 months. After we buy the ticket, we are left with $2000. We are going to stay with a family member until my husband finds a job. My university will start in January. I have full scholarship for my PhD from the university of Arkansas, so we will move to Fayetteville. My husband and my baby daughter of 15 months, are both American Citizens, so I got my Immigrant visa. Everything in London is so expensive, and with only him working and getting £1200 pcm, we couldn't save money at all after the birth of my child. I am freaking out and I think I am having anxiety attack. I don't know the American culture, English is not my first language, although I passed the GRE and TOEFL, we don't have enough money, I am just so worried.

Can you say something to calm me down?

Your hubby will stress about not finding work right away,

probably get a little depressed too

the family will be nice at times, and suck at times,

cling to your husband and don't let anyone get in the way

love your daughter

and always be open and honest and communicate clearly so you and your hubby will always no how each of you are doing

you're right about the money.... sit down with him and discuss how that will be spent

and have a little plan,

short term plans

long term plans

also, when you're looking to buy a car...

I suggest a KIA cheap, reliable, low maintaince, and cheap insurance

You are moving to the best country in the world in which to live, the land of opportunity and freedom.  If your husband is bringing with him a marketable skill and if he possesses a genuine willingness to work, he won't have much trouble getting a job.  If your writing skills are any indication, your English is excellent, so don't worry about that.  Welcome to the USA!

You have family here, that makes all the difference! I hope your visa will allow you to get a part time job. Stay with the family as long as needed, jobs are not really difficult to find in most parts of the US.  As for language, you likely know English good enough, you will just need to start thinking in English rater than translating in your mind everything you hear.

Relax all is well just go witht he flow if you are staying with family it won't be long before you have a place of your own trust me with detremination you can do anything! The USA is great and from what I hear not really much different from Urpean countries. Live it up girl get ready!!! This is an adventure you'll treasure... So much to do and so much to see very easy going here but alwasy be careful you have to anywhere you go there are freaks everywhere!!! Not saying there is more here then there just saying always be careful and don't go into cities that have high danger rates... You can get a list of the states and cities that have high danger rates, go on line look into it! I live in a nice town, only one murder and that was in the 70's the highest crime rate we have here is drunk drinving!!! Relax this will be great don't bring more stress on or meanifest things to happen just let things happen naturally with ease and trust b/c this is for you! If you don't like it you can always leave!!!

If you're moving to Fayetteville, AR, see if your husband can find a job at AEP. They are a really great company and I know we're hiring this time of year for everything. The pay is quite good, even if it is just entry level starting out position. The benefits are also decent. (I say decent because we're military, so I have my husband's benefits and they are excellent. LOL)

Also, you may want to look into part time work for yourself, just to help out until you two can soar on your own wings. I know it'll be hard, but maybe around the Christmas season, you could find something and then concentrate on your education and your family.

As far as calming down goes, its best to just try and relax... You can help anything with worrying that things may not turn out for the best. Have some faith. Encourage your husband, even on the really hard days. I'm sure he'll find something! Try researching on-line now for what is available where you are. Get your resumes ready and just try.

After all, in America, we have the right to pursue happiness. Now, that doesn't mean you'll find it, it just means its yours to pursue.

Be anxious for nothing but pray about everything. Even if you don't think you are being heard, you are! Look at coming to America as a new adventure that's waiting to be explored by you. The unknown can be quite surprising!

I love challenges because they give you the opportunity to see and build character in yourself. You really don't know how much courage you possess until you are met with a challenge and overcome it. You'll see it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be. Humans are made with such resilience to survive the worst conditions to the most joyous surroundings. It's call self preservation!

When you get to America don't act like a foreigner because some people prey on that. They sense you are new and will take advantage of your vulnerability. Just relax, relate and release your inhibitions! You will do fine. There is a lot of opportunity here in the USA. People can sell gravel/rocks on the side of the road and make a living. You can sell or throw newspaper to make ends meet here. You can get with a company that sell bottled water and make it. There is much to discover to get you and your baby involved in something positive. There are "New Comers Guides" in Visitors Bureaus in most large cities to acquaint you with your new surroundings.
