I'd like to know where would be good to live and where not so good, and what sort of people live in which area (i.e. families, students, professionals, old people ...). Thanks everyone!

  1. Wicker Park - Hipsters,

    Lincoln Park - Yuppies

Ukrainian Village - Yuppies and Hipsters

Humboldt Park - Mixed (black, puertorican, whites, very few yuppies) and that's where I live.

Logan Square - Latino (cheap rents, but not the safest area).

Lincoln Square - Yuppies, cool people, students, professionals and old people...lots to do there as well.

Bucktown - this borders Lincoln Park and Wicker Park.  Basically a combination of yuppies, professionals and hipsters, but a cool and safe area to live.

Wrigleville - douchebag Cubs fans everywhere, so don't even think about it.  lol.

There's plenty more to research.  There are nice neighborhoods in the South Side as well, but I'm not too familiar with those areas.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

  2. Try this one, which gives crime statistics: http://chicago.everyblock.com/crime/

Wikipedia actually has a pretty good description of the neighborhoods:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighborhoo...

  3. yeah. http://www.rottenneighbor.com/ tells you about bad neighbors/s*x offenders in whatever area. also, http://chicago.everyblock.com/crime/ shows you all the crime in a certain area. if i were you, i would go for a place right downtown, boystown, near armitage, hyde park, lincoln park, wicker park, logan square, humboldt park, etc.

  4. the northside is more popular because of decades of white flight, taught because of the black population is higher on the south side.

the northside, for all it's supporters, is dirty, overcrowded, with an antiquated infrastructure, overpriced apartments that don't include parking, narrow streets, overused expressways. also, the gas is higher on the northside then anywhere else in the city. Even the mob moved to Melrose park!

very few people even know the south city limits.

  5. Anywhere around Loyola, Depaul, U of I is going to be students. South side is ghetto, there are certain parts that are decent and safe but blue collar, more bars not clubs, cool area though if you like that. North side is going to be yuppies, young professionals, etc. Chicago is expensive, aside from high housing costs Todd Stroger is responsible for our 11% sales tax, thats like 40 cents extra on a cup of coffee so imagine that for your groceries and everything else you buy.
