  1. To work in a preschool in OH you must have a minimum of a high school diploma.  You are expected to take Child Development courses and to receive some sort of inservice (or take a class) on a yearly basis.

You are expected to be certified in First Aid and CPR, Communicable Diseases, and Child Abuse courses.  These are all provided by the local Red Cross chapters. Pay attention to when these expire.  Someone must be on the premises at all times who is currently certified in all three classes.

You must fully pass a background check after submitting your fingerprints, which must be taken either at a local police station or the Sheriff's office.  This goes with a Convictions Statement in which you must disclose whether or not you have ever been convicted of a crime.

You must also provide a copy of your driver's license, or other proof that you can work in this country, three written references, and you have to have a physical exam including a TB test.  Medical statements must be done on a yearly basis, as well.

Directors of schools are responsible for having all of these items in their folders, as well as the folders of their employees.  They must make sure that all children submit the proper forms prior to enrollment.  Directors must adhere to all state licensing guidelines.  A copy of those requirements will be available at the place you will work at.  There is one announced visit per year to make sure you are in compliance, and one unannounced visit.
