I am moving to Toronto with a 7 years old son. I will be working in downtown Toronto.

What is the best place to live there? I need to find location where my son will have a good school

and I will be able to get to my job location. I would love to stay in downtown but I don’t know how

schools are in the downtown area.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

  1. North York is a nice area! its right near town but more residential, there are plenty of schools and great transportation...

    Gluck!!

  2. You can live in one area and have your kids go to a school in a different neighbourhood, especially if they're in a program not offered everywhere (like French Immersion)

Where you choose to live really boils down to your lifestyle. To me, Church and Wellesley seems like a good family kind of area. They have non-busy side streets, a community centre with lots of stuff for kids to do that's right beside a park, and a school with a huge grass yard right down the street. Nearby is Cabbagetown, which is "nice" too, but just a few blocks away (where I live) is what most people would call ghetto.

  3. I have been living in downtown Toronto with my three kids for their wholes lives and we love it! I have no urge to move to the 'burbs at all. The schools are hit and miss. Some are very good and some not so great but it depends more on the school than the neighbourhood. If you are a single parent, I recommend the St. Lawrence/Esplanade/Distillery neighbourhood. It is very child friendly, central, lots of services, schools, community events. etc. Riverdale is great too.
