  1. TRN told you the best advices.

I'm mexican too, from Aguascalientes city, I've been in Torreón (did you check the spelling, with the accent on the "Ó"?).

Torreón is a safe city, as many northern cities not in the border. But that is not a nice city (not touristic means actually, not very pretty). The city is industrial, the weather is terrible bad: too hot in summer to cold in winter and too dry always; it is in the middle of the desert. You will see.

    Have fun.

  2. Torreón is safe, but the weather is Tucson´s type because it´s located near the desert, border cities are the worst, but inner Mexico you´ll be surprised of the beautiful cities we have, once here my advise to you it´s to travel, maybe Monterrey which is a Northern city as well, will suit you better, it has a nice standard of living and there are really good schools to teach there, plus you can find a lot of activities to see and do´.

  3. Hello, I live in Torreón.

Torreon is considered one of the safest cities in Mexico, Coahuila, where it's located is also one of the safest states, however, we do have problems.

Torreón, together with Gómez Palacio and Lerdo (neighbouring cities) form the 9th largest metro area in Mexico with roughly 1.200.000. It's not as big as Monterrey, Guadalajara or Mexico City but it's kind of growing quite fast.

You must know that this city is not kind of touristic, it's just a city for work and live, it does has restaurants, cinemas, malls and night clubs, but it's not the typical mexican touristic city, since it's only 100 years old (for instance, Mexico City was founded en the 1500s).

There is a little touristic stuff specially about Mexican Revolution and close are the "Dunas de Bilbao", desertic dunes, Sahara-styled =)

I don't know where you come from, but this city has a rare climate: it has very hot summers, but in winters temps may fall even some degrees below 0°C. In these months (february, march) there are many dust storms, so you'll have to learn to live with that. Rain is almost unexistent, excepting July.

It's fully communicated by land and by air to other cities in Mexico and USA. Many people here is able at least to hold a little conversation in english, but well...it's Mexico, we speak spanish =)

Welcome to the town and I hope I've helped some way. ¡Bienvenido a México, bienvenido a Torreón!

  4. Here is a short article with some good info.  Yes , it is safe to travel in  Mexico, once you leave the border areas  Bus service is excellent and safe.
