  1. You mean the DAWES ROLLS--a commission set up to in about 1896 to convince the 5 Civilized Tribes to give up their reservation system (their governments, schools, etc) in exchange for a piece of government land.

These sites on a Yahoo search should help. Just go to the websites mentioned and they tell you what to do, what is needed, etc:

  2. I believe you mean the Rolls. Tracking your heritage can be a daunting task. Check with the Cherokee registration, here's a link:http://www.comanchelodge.com/cherokee-ro...

  4. Dawes Commission... You can contact

    http://www.cherokee.org/

For the paperwork to get your CDIB card (Certificate Degree of Indian Blood and then you can apply for your membership to the Tribe.

You have to be able to trace your heritage back to the Rolls, and you have to have had a family member in your blood line that was signed up on the roll..

    Good luck.

  5. It's called Daws.  I have several relatives that were native american, unfortunately, they did not include their race in the census, they were half indian, and listed themselves as white.  Some states have census records of only native americans.  I have some papers at home (not with me) that show where you can look in more detail and to get grants, etc that came from a powwow last year.  I'll message you with some links once I do find them if your interested, you can message me through here.  One place you may look is www.usgenweb.com.  They have some good information people have donated online (looking for their own relatives).  Ancestry.com is also a great place to start, you may have a free account, and if you know relatives names, you may view partial census records for free (which include names and ages).  Another site sponsered by ancestry.com that is free is www.rootsweb.com.  It shows family trees and various information.  Another way to find out is go to the county your relatives lived in, or write the county recorder and ask how to obtain death certificates.  This is an easy and effective way to learn more about older relatives.  In some states you must contact vital statistics, I don't know where you live exactly.  If you search for native american roots on ask.com you will find various links to look at.  At any rate, good luck with your searches.

EDIT  The 1880 census on ancestry.com is supposed to be free to look at.
