I know the basics, like feeding, grooming and stuff ... I just dont know if I have been doing it right or wrong and if there is anything that I am completely leaving out ...

She is a 16 year old mare before I got her, my uncle had gotten her from a pasture that had been flooded that the owner just left her in, so she had rain rot from her stomach down ... but he got her better, she has also had three babys, one filly and a set of twin foals ... but I think they all died after a few weeks/ or months of birth. Thats about all I know about her ... since i have had her, she poked her eye on a tree branch and we had to rush her to the vet because it was swollen and full of puss ... but it healed perfect and caused no damage to her vision. She is very calm ... and kind of clumsy.

  3. First off, congratulations on your first horse. :)

Other than the technical stuff, like feeding and mucking, a very good tip I would say is get to know your horse. Know her attitude, her likes, her dislikes, etc. This way, if her behaviour changes, you can call the vet. I would also try to get an experienced horse owner to come out and show you how to do some things that you aren't sure about.

Other than that, there's not much you can do except giving lots and lots of love :).
