I am new to Australia, and i have started to like AFL, can everyone tell me a good team to barrack for?

I personally go for the West Coast Eagles as I live in Western Australia and the dockers suck and always will, i would say you should go for the eagles but you may be put off by the scandals surrounding the team these last few Months/years. If not the Eagles I'd say the Bombers or even Carlton now they've got Judd off the eagles coz he's awesome.

Oh yeah DO NOT go for Colingwood unless you live in an area with alot of people who support them, they play dirty and every one hates them, everyone i know does, heh especially me.

WEST COAST EAGLES! They have won the last two championships!

Another good team is the Sydney Swans! It's great to watch both these teams in a Campionship with ya mates and sum beer!

Colllingwood is the most parochial of all AFL teams.You either love them or hate them theres no side lines to the question. Officially they have been in more Grand finals in AFL history and have come up second best, played in something like 40 grandfinals however they have won 14 Premier ships,the highest  with AFL premierships is Carlton with 16. Carlton are a rich elite club,Collingwood are a working class struggling club with good  solid membership about 40,000 plus

Barrack for a team near where you live. That way it is easier and you can watch them more...cpt if you want eagles...good luck getting a seat at Subi. But If you are in WA, West Coast Eagles are the main one, in Adelaide I reckon the Adeliade Crows, Queensland- Brisbane Lions, Sydeny - Sydney Swans or If you are in Victoria, you can choose which ever you think is best or is more popular in the area.

well as i live in SA, i am a bit biased. i go for the adelaide crows, theyre just very entertaining to watch and have alot of young players coming in who are performing well. McLeod being among the most exciting. but yeah it depends on where you're living. because if you live in adelaide and start going for collingwood.... goodluck finding many friends :P but i like watching Brisbane Lions, theyre another good team to watch.

Depends on which state you live in, including the territories. Now that North no longer plays in the ACT, I guess you can be a free agent in the ACT, unless you include it with NSW, then you should go for the Swans.

In Tassie, go for Hawthorn.

In QLD, Brisbane.

In NT, go for the Doggies.

In the other three states, well, it is open season.

If you are in Victoria, but out of Melbourne and the suburbs, remember,

Your going to get every team under the sun suggested.as we all know our team is best see i would say go for the Saints they are due some luck this year.My Hubby would say go for the Doggies he is English so that's where the red white and blue comes into it.Try the team that is closest to you IE if you live near Richmond go for the Tigers. there is no hard and fast rule just chose a team and stick with it.You have allready maade a great choice by coming to live in Australia you are a wise man.GOOD LUCK.

Ok.... well sometimes it MIGHT depend where you actually live .....

I'm a Demon's supporter .. and very much a traditionalist SO I would highly recommend that you support a VICTORIAN TEAM .. and while I would like you to support the Dees.... I think it should really be up to you to pick a team ..

the ONLY team i would tell you NOT to support would be CARLTON  ( sorry blues supporters BUT it's a long standing issue with me) .. .

and while a Lot of people knock Collingwood .. they are really such a HUGE part of the tradition of the game

If you're American there are a few traps for you:  Australians don't 'root' for their team .. unless it's North Melbourne.  We don't really use the term 'barrack' that much either.  We consider oursleves part of the team and say things like "My team's Geelong" ...

Anyway I'm a Geelong supporter and I'll try to categorise the teams for you:
