to the testing procedures all speakers are hooked up correctly and working. The question is, am I suppose to be getting sound from the rear surrounds at all times? So far, I have heard nothing. What do I need to do?

Also is anyone familiar enough with this system to tell me how to get the Onyko remote to work my dvd (pioneer) and Samsung Plasma.

  1. I really depends on what type of programming you're watching almost all channels on tv are stereo excepts for some premium channels that transmit movies in Dolby Digital or 5.1 surround sound.

the surround speakers are only for effects so you will only hear effect from the movie depending on the scene for example if the person in the movie is in the jungle you wil probably will hear jungle sounds and distant animals from the rear speakers and the whatever you see in the screen or the from the front speaker except dialog that is mainly from the center speaker.

surround sound is like involving sound its move depending of what happening in the screen if the person move to the right you will hearing from the front right speaker and so on but the rear are mainly for surround or enviroment sound/effects

  2. It depends on what you are watching. Not all T.V. programs are in Stereo or surround sound. Your Stereo should have an indicator display showing how many speakers are being used at the moment. Make sure your receiver is set to 5.1 . Most are set to 2.0 by default so you have to choose 5.1 on the menu. If you watch a lot of old movies many are single speaker output. Bottom line: The speaker will only put out sound when there is A signal present to that speaker. Your display should show 5 little squares saying LF,C,RF,LS,RS,and SW.
