The Specialized Rockhopper and the Diamondback Overdrive are the two bikes I'm considering. I am not familar with each bike's components and others' opinions may serve well.

  1. Well, with my knowledge, diamondback isn't a big mtb name, and specialized is, with that I'd recommend the specialized, the rockhopper line has been going many years and is good quality.

  2. my first mountain bike was a rockhopper. I traded it in on my stumpjumper. db makes good bikes, but I'm partial to specialized..

  3. you cant go wrong with specialized. it may be a higher price, but those things are incredibly durable. recently 2 people i know bought a db response sport, and a specialized hardrock. my friends db has been nothing but a lemon, his disc brakes have been acting up, his chain broke, his crank arm spindle has been complately stripped, and on top of that his chain occasionaly gets stuck between the front sprocket and the frame. in contrast, the specialized has not had a problem yet. may i also suggest looking into trek, besides the skinny tires, they are super reliable, and can take a hit like a champ. see if the trek 4500 interests you. oh, one thing about that specialized that ive remembered, the rear derailer was sub par, i.e. noise, but other than that its fine

  4. for future refrence when buying bike always look for bigger named brands. And besides the rock hopper has way better parts . For instance better suspension and frame.
