  1. Ok, for people who are just starting I would reccomend a long board (soft tops are good for kids but wood ones work well too). I just got back into surfing and I am using a long board. Short boards are supposed to be not very boyant and they are hard to paddle on because of it. If i were you I'd get really good at surfing on a long board and then try a short board out and see how you like it. You can try seeing your local surf stores for good deals on new or used surf boards (with $60 you'll probably only be able ot afford a used board) if they don't have anything in your price range ask them  theyknow any other stores or people with good deals or they might even know a website that would be good.

    Hope this helps!

  2. I recomend a long board about 8 or 9 feet. U can get a used one for pretty cheap and soft tops are good for starters. u should find a place that is calm like Mondos, CA thats on your way up to santa barbara. u can also get cheap lessons. or find a friend of the family who knows how to surf. Good Luck!!

  3. You are obviously going for a very old board then. I'd suggest something in the area of 7 to 8 feet.
