Question:

I am not a puppy... right

Why do people keep asking about adopting pets under pregnancy and parenting >> adoption.

It almost makes ME feel like I just got picked up at the pound. Geeze, I hope I've had all my shots.

Do any other adoptees in here feel mildly miffed when people mistake this section of Y!A for the pet department? Or am I just being over sensitive?

  1. I find it wrong that animals are put up for *adoption* the way people are.  Purchasing a dog is not the same as adopting a child.

  2. I don't think people do it on purpose for the most part.  But there are some weirdos out there who think that adopting a dog is just as important as adopting a person and they may put it on here on purpose just because they feel pets are equal to people.   I think most of the time though, it's just an innocent mistake and either way there's no reason to take offense to it.  You know you aren't a dog.  Your parents know you aren't a dog.  No worries.

  3. No, we're not puppies

At least puppies come with papers and aren't denied access to their genetic heritage and knowledge of their ancestors!  A puppy can trace his genealogy further back than the average adoptee ;)

Just look at the ads you see in the papers advertising children like animals - most of them state the race and whether or not they've had their shots!  sick.

  4. I understand how you feel, as I was adopted by my grandmother. Maybe they're just being idiots?

  5. http://www.poundpuplegacy.org <<< excellent Adoptee Centric site

  6. Itdoes seem weird, but I think sometimes it the YAHOO system that picks the subject/category for them and they just don't pay attention about it when they post the question.

I'd be more offended by some of the comments from people who KNOWNGLY come into the adoption section to insult others.

You are not being overly sensitive.

  7. *shrugs* I haven't really cared. I relate to cats pretty well anyway. LOL

  8. Most of those people are teens...and the vast majority of questions are 'prechosen' by yanswers for category placement....so, you would need to look before you submitted your question--which a lot of people don't do.

  9. I think some do it to make a point to some adoptive parents that talk about adoption like they're going to pound to adopt a pet but who really knows. I'm not in there head so I can't say so for sure and I wouldn't let it bother you.
