I did work over the summer, but theres no way the EFC can be that high. Is it possible I filled out my FAFSA incorrectly? I was eligible last year and received the $4000, why the sudden denial I mean I didn't earn that much money.

Can I fill out a FAFSA again / appeal something or am I SOL??

  1. You can verify the information you submitted and if something is not correct, you can submit a FAFSA correction.  There isn't much of an appeals process when it comes to EFC.

  2. It could be possible that your income (or folks income) could go up enough to change it.  I would go in and physically have someone from the fin aid office review what you answered.

Sometimes one does qualify for the full pell one year and none the next, but it could be a mistake.  Take your taxes you used along with everything you used (W2's) etc. to fill out the form.  Also pay close attention to the "Number in Household" to be sure it's correct.

I worked with a girl once who put mom made $120,000 a year.  I asked,

"Honey, what does your mom do?"

"She works at a fast food place."

Mom actually made 12,000 a year.  Remember there is no "cents" in financial aid.

  3. go back and do a corrections and make sure you didn't make a mistake or anything.

but the same thing happened to my friend.  I think they might have changed the requirements or the method they use to figure out EFC.  I think a lot of people are going to lose their pell grant for 08 09 b/c the government is in debt and trying to save some $$$ by taking away aid for college.
