  1. The surround sound system should be coming from the satellite box into your surround sound amplifier and the speakers come out of your surround sound amplifier.  Are you using the HDMI cable or the Component Cables?

GO to your TV MENU and choose the AUDIO then make sure you choose External Speakers.

Next time provide the Make and Model of your TV.

  2. To get the best surround performance, make sure you are connecting with DIGITAL connections.  Your DVD player will have (at least) both a digital audio output and a set of stereo analog outputs.  Your TV may be the same, but may only have analog audio outputs. If you can't get digital audio out of the TV to the receiver, plug your source components (DVD, satellite box, etc) direct to the receiver.

  3. a lot of tv's only have stereo output

hook your dvd player to the reciever.

the dvd should have output for 5.1 stereo ( surround sound)

Also check your receiver Speaker settings

Mine has a button marked A,B,C,D...

It re configures the speaker setup for different applications

  4. Maybe you have to many things plugged into your tv.

  5. Husband says all depends on the Tv some require connection to the satellite box, also make sure your in's and outs are right, your sound jacks should be output since your feeding the signal to the surround....he suggests if you haven't read the instructions do so  ^_^
