I have an outside cat who adopted me and since I have never had a cat I was wondering a few things about them.

Are they daytime sleepers? Or do they sleep most all the time? Are they unsure what food they like or are they too cool to eat what you serve? Do they really care about those who feed them? What is up w/them really?

  1. Ha the cat adopted you, that is cute. Cats can sleep up to 16 hours a day..mine nap on and off if i'm not up to much but love to be around me constantly. They'll usually eat whatever you feed them..I suggest wellness or innova cat food, it is a great quality brand with no by-products or fillers which lead to health problems later on in life. My cats really do enjoy my company and love to snuggle and cuddle all the time, some cats are different than others. Cats really do tend to do things on their own terms, if your new kitty is skittish just give it time and it should warm up to you.

  2. cats sleep average 18 hrs a day.

cats will eat the food they like and turn their nose up at what they don't like.

and as long as someone feeds them, they are not bothered

  3. Depends on the cat. One thing you'll quickly learn about cats is that they do WHAT they want WHEN they want to do it. If a cat is tired, it will sleep. If a cat is hungry, it will eat. The food is all about trial and error. Some cats will hate you whether you feed them or not (actually, they'll love you for about 10 minutes before mealtime then hate you until the next mealtime) and some cats will love you unconditionally (though I don't recommend starving them to find out...) All cats, like all people, are different. But if he/she adopted YOU and not the other way around, I think you'll be fine.

  4. Haha that's funny how you said that the outside cat adopted you instead of saying you adopted it, but what you said is so true :)!!

Cats are nocturnal but they sleep all the time, most of the day and most of the night. It also depends on how old the outside cat is how much he/she will sleep. Kittens will sleep a lot less then an older cat and the older they get the more they will sleep.

It depends on the cat if they will be picky eaters or eat what is served. Some cats will beg for table scraps and some will only eat cat food. It is alright to feed your cat table scraps once and a while but you shouldn't feed them table scraps all the time. I would suggest giving your new friend 1/2 a can of wet food a day and then having dry food and water available all day.

  5. I'm with Nancy

  6. My outside cats that are wild or visiting from some neighbor's house get hard crunches in an outside bowl with fresh water daily.  You have to build-up trust before they will let you touch them.  If I know they have no owner I will try to trap and fix them.  It will keep them in the area.  When removed from the area, another cat usually takes over the area.  Cats are wonderful pets.  Wild cats usually show up in the evening hours as they sleep somewhere they feel is safe.  They food search at night.  I think they do appreciate human feeding them regularly because I have had some bring a natural kill to my step and leave it to share with me.  A cat I took into my home use to garden with me and sit with me outside.  He became a wonderful companion.

  7. Cats are wonderful companions. Consider making this kitty an indoor friend. Cats do like to sleep in the daytime they are nocturnal creatures. House cats sleep around 16 hours a day. Contrary to popular opinion most cats are not picky and are not aloof. Yes your cat can love you. In our house I'm the one who does most of the feeding and cleaning of cat boxes but this batch of cats all love Daddy best :o) Get the kitty a quality cat food, they eat and eliminate less than with cheap food. Play with it and let it sit on your lap if it wants to.You'll have a friend for life. Bless you

  8. My cat sleeps a lot through out the day. She gets really hyper usually between 10 and 12 at night. But other than that, for the most part, she lays around.

As for food, she's not really that picky. Any dry food I've given her she's eaten (I've actually seen her eating my dog's dry food). If I give her can food, she doesn't like the fish flavors, for some reason.

My cat is very loving with me but not so much with almost everyone else. She didn't like my mom at first. But after I had to leave her with my mom for a week, she's warmed up to her, I guess since she was feeding her.

  9. They take cat naps some cats love to sleep. My cats likes 9 lives and friskies. Most don't like generic brands. My persian cat doesn't like tuna and i'm surprised. So cats like certain foods. And they don't care who feed them.

  10. They sleep whenever they feel like it!! LOL

Mine sleeps all the time! He only wakes up for food, or too annoy our parrot hahah!

They do sleep ALOT in the day, and at night!!

Toms are usually more active then queens in the night though .. they go prowl for lady-friends lol

They like most cat foods, although you do get some fussy eaters. They like any meat really !!Mine goes crazy for salmon, ham and chicken!!

To cut cost, why not buy a mutipack of wet canned cat food, and a box of dry, then in the morning mix half a can with some dry food.

Gives them more energy, and will cost you less!!

Also, to make their coats nice and shiny, about once a week i give mine a sunflower oiled tuna! He loves it ..and it makes him so pretty!

Argh ... mine always tries to jump up on the surface and l**k the butter .. it drives me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!

They do love who feeds them, but they are very independent .. dont be put off by this, they can still be affectionate ..

let it curl up on your lap when you watch tv.. and maybe make some balls out of foil and flick them at it,

the foil catches the light and he chases it .. so funny!! and cute, and it gets some excersize then!

Catnip will also make them ADORE you!!

They are a PURRFECT pet, as they normally dont mind being alone in the day, unlike dogs.

Good luck and enjoy your kitty!

Sorry, ami doing something wrong with my cat =S why have i have 2 thumbs downs??

  11. or four.

  12. With some cats, dry food--ANY dry food--may promote cystitis.  It can quickly become a serious condition that, without treatment, can be fatal.

With an indoor cat, it will be more noticeable as the cat's litter box habits may change; you may see the cat straining; the cat may show blood in the urine; may go outside of the box, etc.  With an outdoor cat, you won't see these things.

We've actually had this problem with THREE different cats (spread over about 20 years).  The vet said that even the best dry foods are...well...DRY and she recommended wet food only.

Years ago, before we knew this, our cat recovered from cystitis, and when we went back to dry foods, the cat relapsed.

There are a number of variables that go into this, such as magnesium and ash in the food, etc., but just keeping the cat well hydrated (through wet food) can help.

Also, believe it or not, a prior vet told us that foods with FISH tend to have more of the elements that contribute to the condition.  Go figure.  AND foods that are not labeled on the front label as fish (e.g., turkey, beef, etc.) may contain fish--read the fine print.

It is not uncommon for them to sleep a lot.  They love those who feed them.  Some are real pigs--eat everything in site; some are fussy--just like people.

If it is to be an outdoor cat, the vaccinations are important.  It really needs a trip to the vet and the vet will tell you these things.  I have found that cats that adopt humans tend to be very, very loving cats.

    Best of luck!

  13. EVERY CAT IS DIFFERENT SO IT DIFFERS. THEY SLEEP DAY AND NIGHT NOT AT THE SAME TIME OUT DOOR CATS USUALLY FIND FOOD THEMSELVES

  14. well all my cats sleep during the day and roam the streets at night.

the food you feed them they will most likely eat as long as there isn't excessive oil

and no they don't care about you. they're just using you for your food and shelter, to be honest with you.
