I am not used to being micro-managed?

I just took a job as a nurse recruiter with a large company. Once a week, we meet with our supervisor individually. My supervisor this week printed out my daily call report and broke down how many calls I made per hour and to whom. This freaks me out. Is this micro-management? I am not used to it.

  1. As a nurse recruiter I would assume you would be making calls to find nurses? Have you been given specific job objectives, measurable ones?  A quota to fill?  If so, your call report would be one of the measures.  No doubt your supervisor's success is dependent upon you meeting your objectives.  It sounds like you recently took this job.  Is she perhaps doing this because you are fairly new?  If she is doing this on a weekly basis with everyone it sounds excessive.  Does she talk about anything else?  It seems like a summary of how many calls per week would be sufficient in a discussion, then some advise or discussion about the content of your calls, or a general discussion about who you are targeting (certain schools, recent graduates, etc.).  Let some time pass to see if anything changes.  A micro manager would be sitting next to you during the call!  (or listening in!...as they do at most companies...they call it "double jacking").  Don't let it bother you yet....good luck!

  2. Yes, it sounds like it.

EVERY TIME she does that, call her and talk to her for 30 minutes about how wonderful she is for doing that.
