Spalletti is hoping that their latest defeat will not affect them in UEFA Champions League and has revealed Domenico Criscito and Danny Miguel’s absence
Zenit St. Petersburg head coach, Luciano Spalletti, has urged fans to remain calm and show little patience despite their latest defeat in the Russian Premier League against Terek Grozny on Friday.
The St. Petersburg club recorded their second defeat of the campaign, having already suffered a 2-1 against Rubin Kazan at Petrovsky stadium last month. Zenit have now dropped down to the 2nd spot, leaving Chechens right
at the top of the league table.
The former AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 manager revealed that they failed to create many chances during the game and they have to work on their defensive mistakes if they are to retain the league title this season.
“I am disappointed with the home results but I am sure my team will alter the situation.”
“Last season we were behind 7-8 points from the top-spot and still won the championship with a 14-point advantage. So I'm not worried. But, yes, we have to do a lot of hard work to improve.” The 53-year-old was quoted as saying.
When asked about Domenico Criscito and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Miguel’s absence, Spalletti revealed that the Italian defender felt pain in his calf muscle during training and he does not include the Portuguese midfielder in the starting line-up
to save the 29-year-old for the next match against Malaga CF.
However, the former Sampdoria coach revealed that Criscito is unlikely to start their first group stage match against Malaga.
Spalletti is of the belief that their latest defeat will not affect their UEFA Champions League campaign, saying that his team will go head to head with the Spanish outfit in the group stages of the continental tournament.
The Meshki will play in the group stages against Malaga, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RSC-Anderlecht-c40394 and seven-time Champions League winner, AC Milan.
Zenit’s new signings including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Renat-Yanbayev-c30821 made their debut against the Chechens. Spalletti was particularly impressed with Yanbayev’s solid performance at the back, saying that the 28-year-old defender
has a bright future.
