Also want to know if Pokhara has the equivalent of Thamel, Kathmandu? What's a good and inexpensive place to stay? Is it possible to network with some likeminded people who intend to visit Pokhara around the same time? Perhaps we could do some hikes together? Is there a paragliding outfit I could check out?

  2. I was in Pokhara last summer....I didn't get to do much sight seeing and I don't know specific area names, but there are definately a lot of places to go hiking. You could hike to the World Peace Pagoda....it only takes about an hour once you cross the lake and the view is beautiful...but if you are looking for a more intense hike, there is definately a lot of opportunity for that in Pokhara too. There is a lot of shops like Thamel, with a lot less traffic. Prices vary in comparison, usually a little more expensive than in Kathmandu. A lot of ladies from Tibet also come down to sell/trade with you for their jewelry. That can made for an interesting experience... wish I could remember the place of where I stayed...the hotels seem quite a bit nicer than in Thamel, not sure of the price comparison. Have an Amazing time in Pokhara...you'll love it I'm sure!
