  1. It depends a lot on your life style and needs........ you can rent an apparment for as low as $500 USD a month, but you can also find appartments in a nicer zone for $1500 a month. Depends also on where you will be working, as you might want to live close to your workplace but that might mean living in an expensive area...... which also means expensive private schools (tuition can be around 500USD per month per child depending on the school, services included, if it's bilingual, etc.), expensive restaurants & shops, etc. Also, would you be using public transportation?? Taxis?? A car provided by the company?? I don't know either if you like to go out every weekend with your wife and kids to spend money at the cinema, theme parks, restaurants, etc....... It is really too hard to make a calculation without knowing what you are expecting to do in the city and what kind of habits you have.

  2. Some can make it as at a reasonable level of living for around $2000.00 per month- thats with rent at $250/ month-- (double wide trailer on big lot). Phone, internet is $60.00/ month. Propane is $40, water is $16, power (electricity) is around $50. If you are that close to border you'll likely do your grocery shopping in the US (about 20% cheaper for most things). Gas is cheaper near the border- about 74 cents/ liter, car repairs much cheaper etc.

You can get a reasonable, bilingual education for $150.00/ month and spend as much as you want. I know of one that uses a US curriculum and charges $200/ month- but with a large up front fee of $1500.00 to pay for field trips, books, uniforms etc.

It's a reasonably priced place to live. If I was to live on the US city close to me, I'd have to have closer to $5000.00/ month- So it costs me less than half to live in Mexico-- but I don't live in an American enclave, either- I live in Mexico, with working class Mexicans.

  3. You don't say where in Mexico, but if it is the Mexico City area, State of Mexico or another metropolitan area you should figure with your wife not working, two childern, for whom you will want to pay tuition for private school, two cars, the high price of gasoline, food is not that much less than the US and restaurants are often more expensive.....say $4,000 US dollars per month. That's about $ 44,000 pesos.
