It's for my niece and she is having a Goth wedding. All black and done at the cemetery where our family is. This is NOT a Devil or Satanic type wedding at all. Just gothie. haha

Any help would be greatly appreciated, let me tell ya. Like with what to wear for me. ......etc...

And the last thing in the world is for this to be in any way ' tacky'.

  1. Khalil Gibran on marriage

Then Almitra spoke again and said, "And what of Marriage, master?"

    And he answered saying:

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.

You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.

Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another but make not a bond of love:

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.

And stand together, yet not too near together:

For the pillars of the temple stand apart,

And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

  2. The Handfasting sounds good - just use black ribbon or thread. For ideas of things, you might want to check out the Gothic Tarot Deck. It has some great images that might give you some ideas.

But really, you can't go wrong with a blue or black ankle-length skirt and a black corset.

Instead of a bouquet maybe she could carry one single blood-red rose.

  3. A handfasting ceremony would be awesome:

As for what to wear, think Liv Tyler  or Cate Blanchett in Lord of the Rings...but in  black or dark colours.

  4. Handfasting is a celtic/Irish tradition. I've seen it done at wiccan wedding, goth wedding, pagan wedding, and even traditional white weddings.

Its very pretty. You can find a copy of the ceremony online and then can add little personal touches.

Basically, you have several cords and you ask the couple questions and they hold hands and then you drape the cords over their hands. When all the cords have been draped, you loosely tie their hands together. Then they slip their hands out of the cords, leaving a loop, and you say some other words (whatever you want) and then tighten the loop to form a knot. You could even do it so that when you tie them together into a loop you tie them in different places to create a series of knots.

Some sample question include things like:

Q: Will you ever make the other angry?

    Bride Answer: yes

    Q: Is this your intent?

    Bride Answer: No.

[repeat with groom, then drape cord]

Do you promise to remain faithful?

    Both answer: yes

There really is no limit to what kinds of questions you ask them. They can be as personal or generic as they want them to be, the real beauty is just tying their hands together and then solidifying the marriage by tightening the knot.

  5. very bad idea, ever heard of a white wedding, yucky goth wedding

  6. Here are some vows I found last night while looking for dark romanticish vows for my fiance and I to say:

Wasn't what I was looking for but maybe your niece would like them.

I agree on the handfasting the website I posted above has handfasting ceremonies on there too. Things to say and such.

You can watch handfastings at that link. Very beautiful, I think.

Just wear a black dress, or pant suit. Maybe dark purple, dark red, dark colors you know. Capes are cute. I'm going to see about having mine made but for you, you could buy one from a costume store.
