My son was born october of 2006, i had the mirena placed in december 2006. I have gained a lot of weight since being on the mirena and can't lose any of it. I tried dieting but i get hungry and dizzy all the time when i try to eat light meals. I have tried going to the gym and working out, it is not my cup of tea. Someone please tell me what should i do?

  1. consult your doctor to discuss your birth control. this might not be right for you. ther are plenty others to try. perhaps you could just use condoms for a while and be extra safe. untill your weight gets back to normal. ?

  2. This is a sign that your body is "stressed out".  All forms of hormonal birth control is very very bad for you.  Your gyno isn't telling you that because she makes $$$ on your bc and your visits.

Don't believe me?  Check out your adrenals yourself.

  3. Progestogen in the Mirena coil called Levenorgestrel is prone to increasing hunger therefore causing weight gain, fluid retention and making it difficult to lose this weight. You could ask to have your Mirena coil swapped for a non-hormonal coil which won't affect your weight, and is still 99% effective as contraception.

I have a non-hormonal IUD and it is great because there are no hormones to mess up my body.

Diet and weight-loss wise, try doing 30 mins of brisk walking per day, swap snacks for fruit and veg, and drink more water rather than sugary drinks. Cut down on processed foods and maybe find out which foods make you gain weight and which are ok.

  4. Try drinking more water everyday. If you have not been drinking water or not much it is actually causing your body to retain more ofit. Once you start to drink more you will frequent the restroom more for the first couple days or so until your body adjusts then once it adjusts you will not retain and it itself will help your body to function properly and deal with the increased and new amounts of hormones.
