What are the advantages of getting an MSc before medical school? I am forced to take this route and I was just wondering if I will be gaining anything at all. I told my parents that it seems that it won't be much of an advantage at all and I'll just have to get through it, but they are not convinced that two years of schooling could amount to no advantage....

I know that I may have an advantage entering med school... but my GPA was good enough to get in (3.8). I'm just wondering if it will help me at all in my studies (It will be in Medical Science)

  1. I assume MSc means medical science curriculum.... It really won't be, except for maybe research positions. Med schools are going to reteach you everything, so the only advantage may be that your first year is a little easier. Also, the MCAT might be a little easier, but it is for most science degrees (biochem is tops). Med schools won't prefer you for it though, because everything you know they're going to reteach you. Having a research position would help you, and do lots of community service and hospital/clinic work.

  2. Isn't a MSc a Masters in Science? More often than not (I am told), having a higher education label does help at the selection process that medical schools do.
